Mr. H. FitzGerald Lenfest
H. FitzGerald Lenfest matriculated from Washington and Lee University in 1953. Following distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Lenfest went on to attend law school at Columbia University. After graduating, he practiced law with the New York firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell before joining Triangle Publications, Inc. in Philadelphia as associate counsel in 1965. Mr. Lenfest was soon placed in charge of Triangle's Communications Division, serving as editorial director and publisher of Seventeen magazine and president of CATV operations.
In 1974, Mr. Lenfest and his wife Margueritte seized the opportunity to purchase the cable television interests of Triangle Publications. At that time, no one could have anticipated the growth of the industry. As the new millenium approached, Lenfest Communications, Inc. ranked in the top twelve cable television providers in the United States with subsidiaries in France and Australia. In 2000, Mr. Lenfest and his children transferred Lenfest Communications to Comcast Corporation.
Mr. Lenfest and his wife are avid sailors who spend as much time on the water as possible. They are also leading philanthropists and founding signatories of The Pledge.
Webb Institute will award Mr. Lenfest an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws during the commencement ceremony.
