Phonathon – The Phone Lines Were On Fire!

Freshman volunteer callers raise over $111,000!

Each year the freshman class calls Webb alumni and friends to raise money for the Webb Alumni Fund (WAF).  Typically they raise more than they had the prior year by a few percentage points. Last year the freshmen received pledges totaling $63,000 for the 2008-2009 fiscal year.  Over this year's two-night Phonathon, held on March 23rd and 25th , twenty freshman callers made 450 calls and 137 generous individuals pledged over $111,000 — an amazing 76% increase over the previous year.  Most encouraging is that the vast majority of donors increased their gifts over last year. The student callers were broken into four groups of two shifts each night.  The high fundraisers in each of the groups were: Justin Van Emmerik, Gerardo Nixon, Colin Spillane, and David Eddy.

The WAF is critical to Webb continuing its mission.  Thank you to everyone who made a pledge during the Phonathon.  If you weren’t called, you have until June 30th to make your gift to the 2009-10 WAF, but please don't wait until the last day.  Donations can be made online at  Alumni can see the status of the 2009-2010 Webb Alumni Fund campaign and check out the “Honor Roll,” identifying the alums who have already contributed or pledged to the current WAF campaign by going to Webb Institute's alumni website at
