Polar Bear Plunge

The Student Leadership Committee organized a Polar Bear Plunge on December 11th. Approximately 30 students, President Michel and his wife, along with their dog, dove into the icy Long Island Sound for a great cause. More than forty spectators witnessed the event.

Over $1,600 was donated by students, faculty, parents and friends to the Sailors' Society to benefit the Philippine sailors impacted by Typhoon Haiyan. In early November, Typhoon Haiyan made landfall on the Philippines, killing thousands of people and destroying entire villages. Many of the men and women who work aboard merchant ships were from the areas most devastated. Those who were on ship when the event hit home were left wondering whether their families survived. The Sailors' Society is raising money to help these men specifically.
