Webb Tennis Feasts on CIA!

By HVMAC Tennis Coach Patrick Doherty

The 2011 Webb Tennis Team started with the long journey north to visit the Kings of Cuisine at the Culinary Institute of America to play their first match of the season. Avenging last year's 8-1 spanking at the hands of these mighty Chef Boyardees, Webb pulled off the 5-4 upset for their first win of the year.

Dale "Jet Li" Pederson, "Player of the Match", won both his #2 singles match and his #3 doubles match with partner Colin Spillane for 2 of Webb's 5 points. He also flawlessly executed his famous "Samurai Serve" after his match to the amazement of the 22,000 people in the CIA stands. Dan "Van Damme" Dwyer captured the "Rookie of the Match" honors with his 2 victories at the #3 singles and the #2 doubles - an outstanding debut!

With both teams tied at 4 points, the last match of the day at #2 doubles would decide the final outcome. Dan Dwyer and his partner Jon Soja battled to an 8-8 tie, then pulled off the 7-5 tiebreaker win to take the final point of the day and earn the victory against a perennial top HVMAC team.

Webb's next match is at the U.S. Tennis Center on Wednesday against our friends at St. Joseph's.

Congrats to everyone on the victory, but more importantly, for all of the hard work you have all been doing at practice. Captain Michael Cheng is proud!
