Webb Alumni Association Honorary Members Announced

The Webb Alumni Association is proud to announce its newest Honorary Members; Ms. Jocelyn Wilson and Mr. Mike Henry

Ms. Josie Wilson

josieThe WAA Executive Committee would like to welcome Ms. Jocelyn “Josie” Wilson as an Honorary Member of the Webb Alumni Association.  Ms. Wilson began working at the Center for Maritime Studies at Webb Institute in January 1979 as secretary to Director of Research, Jacques B. Hadler.  In 1981 she was promoted to Administrative Assistant to the President (for Admiral Bryan) until September 1984 when she left Webb to raise her two children.  She returned to Webb in September 1995 as the Associate Director of Admissions and Student Services from 1995 to 2005.  She became Registrar in 2005.  When Webb welcomed Rick Neilson as Dean in July 2010, she became the Assistant to the Dean and Faculty, retaining the position of Registrar.

Josie is dedicated to both Webb Institute and its students.  When students need a friend, someone to talk to, advice, or help filing paperwork, Josie is the one they go to.  She organizes the freshman and sophomore winter work assignments, maintaining very positive relationships with representatives from shipyards and shipping companies, and she coordinates the students’ applications for TWIC and Merchant Mariner documents.  She maintains student admissions data, is responsible for annual federal, state and peer college surveys, and assembles documentation necessary for accreditation visits.  She manages the paperwork for the University of Southampton exchange program, coordinates graduation exercises, and edits and proofreads Webb promotional materials.  She provides upperclassmen with contacts for winter work by tracking the professional lives of graduates she has known.  She serves as a contact point for alumni searching for a job or looking to hire people.  She has been an enthusiastic member of the WooFS since their formation and serves as James Ludwig’s on-campus coordinator.  She attends Webb sporting events as a loyal supporter.  Dean Neilson notes, “Personally, she assists me in virtually every aspect of my job.  I can think of no more fitting candidate for Honorary Alumnus.”

Mr. Mike Henry

Mike HenryThe WAA Executive Committee would like to welcome Mike Henry as an Honorary Member in the Alumni Association.  Mr. Henry is Jim Henry’s ’35 first son and a half-brother to James Henry’s (of J.J Henry Co.) two other living children, Jim, III and Dorothy.  Mike and Jim III were co-Trustees of the James J. Henry Charitable Trust, with Mike Henry managing the trust that had two regular recipients of annual gifts, Webb being the larger of the two.  The Trust was recently dissolved and Webb received a major portion of the remaining principal.  Given Mike’s long history of supporting Webb Institute and his enduring interest in his father’s legacy at Webb, Mike Henry has been elected as an honorary member of the Webb Alumni Association.
