Sustainability and Innovation in Ship Design and Operations Conference 2025
November 10 - November 11

Webb Institute and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, in association with MARIN and Wind Support NYC, will be hosting the 2025 Sustainability and Innovation in Ship Design and Operations conference (SISDO 2025). In this annual conference, we bring together industry and academia to discuss the concepts, technologies, case studies, and success stories related to sustainable design, efficient shipping, and innovative technologies throughout the entire maritime industry. In-person and remote attendance options will be available. This year, SISDO has evolved to welcome a wider range of innovative research and activities that contribute to an efficient, next-generation maritime industry.
The conference organizers are now accepting abstracts for content to be presented at this event. Papers and presentations dealing with the design and operation of ships in all appropriate areas of interest are welcome and will include, but are not limited to, the following domains and topics:

Student Project Pitch and Poster Sessions
SISDO will continue its Student Project Pitch session for student projects. High school, undergraduate, and postgraduate students may submit an abstract summarizing a significant academic project that highlights sustainability or innovative shipping research, design, or capstone projects. Accepted student abstracts will be invited to present their project in a short form “Project Pitch” session during the main SISDO program. In lieu of a normal presentation slot, any student projects submittals will be able to give 5–10-minute pitches to conference attendees. The “Project Pitch” format is intended to encourage students to concisely convey the purpose, outcomes, and impact of their projects and persuade the industry to take an interest in their work. A presentation slide deck is expected for any Project Pitch submittals and shall include the name(s) of student(s) involved and school name. Students whose submittals are selected for a Project Pitch will be invited to attend the conference at no charge.
Additionally, students may submit a project poster that will be displayed in the common areas of the conference. A poster session will be scheduled during which students may discuss their work while networking with conference attendees. Posters must be submitted to the conference committee by October 6, 2025, and students must bring a physical copy of their poster to the conference to be displayed. Posters should be at least 11” x 17” and no more than 30”x40”. If any students have difficulty with poster printing, they may reach out to the conference committee for assistance.
