Keith Michel Scholarship Fund

After nine extraordinary years of service as Webb President, Keith Michel ’73 announced his plans to retire effective June 30, 2022.

To honor Keith’s service to Webb, and in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishments—initiatives that he and members of Webb’s Board of Trustees have identified as the institution’s leading priorities—we have established the Keith Michel Scholarship Fund!

The Keith Michel Scholarship Fund will be formed as a permanently restricted endowment to fund the following:

  • Luckenbach-level (1/4) tuition scholarship. A minimum of $300,000 will be designated as a permanently endowed scholarship, and preference will be given to students with a demonstrated financial need; and,
  • Room and board scholarship. The remaining funds raised will be permanently endowed to provide for room and board stipends and related fees.  This scholarship will only be awarded to students with a demonstrated financial need.

A few of Webb’s impressive accomplishments under Keith’s guidance and leadership include:

  1. In partnership with Joe Cuneo and the Campaign Committee, Keith drove Webb’s most successful fundraising campaign ever, securing over $51 million in gifts and pledges.
  2. Webb rebuilt its admissions function and doubled the applicant pool over his tenure.
  3. In partnership with the Board, Keith helped to recruit exceptionally talented Trustees including members of Webb’s Investment Committee, who were key to helping the endowment grow from $54 million to $82 million.
  4. Webb rebuilt its finance function to make sure that the balance sheet accurately reflects the prudent fiscal management of every facet of Webb.
  5. Keith successfully steered Webb through the stormy waters of COVID-19, which upended every educational institution across the world.
  6. Keith architected the inspirational Couch Academic Center, a world-class teaching facility that will last us for another couple of generations!

To date, trustees, alumni, and friends have set an impressive example for the Webb family to follow by making commitments totaling over $600,000!
