When initially contemplating colleges, I knew I wanted to study engineering, but my only connection to the maritime industry was through my father, who was in the Coast Guard. Alumni Spotlight: Marcin Whitman ‘81
Some Webbies have been known to get into fishy business but Whitman has gone too far. Marcin Whitman ’81 started his professional career as a typical Webbie, working for a design firm: Earl & Wright of San Francisco on such issues as stability and wave spectrum analysis for semi-submersibles, jack-ups and tension leg platforms.. Alumni Spotlight: Dan Dorman ‘83
Dan Dorman ’83 was the first Webbie to join the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate (NUPOC) program while enrolled at Webb — and the last one to interview with the late Admiral Rickover! Dan served in the NUPOC program during his junior and senior years, drawing a Navy paycheck that more than covered the cost of his Webb education. Read more…
Alumni Spotlight: Abbott Weiss ’63
August, 1959: Eisenhower was President, Hawaii formally became the 50th state, and I entered Webb with 23 other young men as a freshman. Ike is long gone, Hawaii is still here, and I still feel most fortunate to be a Webbie.
