Alumni Spotlight: Jon LaBerge ’76


Oh how the world has changed in the 35 years since I graduated from Webb.  With all of the stresses and complications of life in the 21st century, it sometimes makes me nostalgic for the era of Vietnam and Nixon and Watergate.  On second thought, maybe not.  But I will say that on my infrequent visits to the campus over the years since graduation, there has been a feeling of constancy and familiarity with a place that has had a remarkable influence on my life and career, and that sentiment feels a lot like nostalgia to me.

Alumni Spotlight – Halsey Herreshoff ’55


Halsey Herreshoff inducted into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame

President Olsen attended the 17th America’s Cup Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, September 18th at the New York Yacht Club’s Harbour Court facility in Newport, RI.  One of the honorees was Halsey Herreshoff ’55 of Bristol, RI – and after his acceptance speech all 600-plus attendees gave him a standing ovation. Alumni Spotlight: Matthew P. Tedesco ‘91


Reading the Alumni Spotlights, anyone can see that there are many paths to Webb.  In my case, my father had grown up in Glen Cove and brought Webb to my attention.  I loved sailing on Long Island Sound, had always been passionate about computers, and had a strong interest in math and science.  Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering seemed like a great way to combine my interests in one career. So when it was time for me to apply to college, Webb was at the top of my list.  Spending time on campus clinched the deal.
